I have been waiting for my new hood for a few days now. Sitting back and thinking about what life will be like driving with the DLB in my newly refinished 850.
The hood is on the way, and I am pulling together a team to help with the hood placement. All is go for now. except the dreaded last bit of news I gained this afternoon. The price. Ugh!
I called a local auto painter. I figured that to paint a hood would be far less than the price to paint an entire car. Well not exactly. Cost is around $100 + 50 to match with fenders, and 50 to paint the underneath. Oh well.
Here is the worst part. The guy on the phone says:
"So you are putting the hood on or are we?"
"No, I ordered it last Friday, it is coming from California so it may take a few days."
"California!? Dude, you live in Cleveland, right?"
"Um, ~yes..."
"Call Certi-Fit! They specialize in aftermarket hoods, I think I did a Volvo hood for under 80 bucks. Yea, it was like 75 or something."
"Gulp, I paid $185 + 128 to ship, and I was told this was a good deal~."
"You got ripped off man!"
I called, sure enough, it was $75.50, right near where the DLB works, and they have 3 in stock.
My head is so far on the floor. I am sick. The part shipped on Sat, more than 48 after my placement. After it ships, there is nothing I can do since it was shipped custom freight. Even if I sent it back, I would have to eat $128 more. I would only save 48 bucks. This sucks.
Now I have to come up with 300 to paint the entire car. Any suggestions? Black, or gray? Does it matter?
